A letter to my 18 year old self.

Dear Young Self,

I know you are going to listen to everything I say, because I am the coolest and when you are my age you will want to be just like me. Promise.

Your life will change more in the next 10 years than it probably ever will in your entire life. You will go off to college, move away from Oklahoma and everything you have ever known, marry the love of your life, and have those kiddos you have been dreaming of your whole life. You will have your heart broken, experience unbearable sadness, the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, you will be filled with happiness and will have unbelievable thankfulness for the moments.

I know you are thinking of going out of state for college. Actually, your heart is set on it. But don't. Think Crimson and Cream. By choosing this college, you will help shape the person you are going to be and will give you experiences beyond your wildest dreams. It will also be good to be around your family at this time. They need you.

Enjoy living in the Kappa house. Never again will you live with your closest friends all in one place. Go on long drives and road trips. Stay up late and laugh till you have a six pack. Continue your high school friendships too. Remember when Mrs. Ruby told you all in 6th grade that you guys wouldn't be friends when you got to Junior High? Ha! Proved her wrong didn't yall? :)
You will also meet some of your best friends well after college. Be open to new friendships. Some will be the best friendships you will ever have. I say all this because you are going to need these friends when the unthinkable happens when you are 30. Cherish these friendships.

Don't eat Taco Bueno every day. The bean burritos are not, in fact, fat free. Don't go tanning in a tanning bed. Use wrinkle cream now. Oh, and Vodka is always a bad idea.

Be present. Life passes you by so much faster than you could ever imagine. Be present in the moments. Each one. You never know if it will be your last time with someone.

Oh...and about that guy. He will swoop in and take your breath away. He will make you laugh harder than you have ever laughed. He will be there for you and challenge you in ways you never knew were possible. Trust him. He loves you more than you could have every imagine being loved. And he will give you the most beautiful babies that were ever born.

Most of all, young self, have fun. Life is short. Enjoy the ride.
Love,
Old Self.

Best blog yet!!! Gosh I wish I'd known not to tan in those ridiculous beds and should've started the anti-wrinkle regimen back in elementary ;-)

Awesome. I love this idea. I might just use it. But I will fully disclose where it came from.

If I were to write a letter to my 18 year old self, I could cover a lot of bases with a simple "Don't do it." :-)
